Keith first started to play cornet at the age of six. His father Stan Jones was his first teacher, he then took lessons at school with Frank Boylin. His first band was Colwyn Borough Band and he regularly played with other local bands. His musical journey spans more than forty-five years and he has a wealth of experience in playing, conducting and teaching.

Keith joined the Army as a musician in 1979, serving in the UK, Germany, Hong Kong and Cyprus.

On leaving the RAMC Staff Band he took up the position of Assistant Principle at Point of Ayr Colliery Band – an association that lasted some twenty-eight years; the latter years playing Flugel Horn but with long periods as Principle Cornet. Most notable results were National Championship Section One, Welsh Area Winners Championship Section twice, 6th at National Finals Championship Section and 3rd at the European Championships. It was during this time that Keith decided to develop his interest in conducting.

In 1997 he took the baton at Conwy Town Band. They were in the fifth section and after ten years had risen to second section making it to the National Finals twice, winning the Rhyl Festival of Brass (twice), Pontins and the North Wales Rally as well as recording a CD.

After a period back playing for both Beaumaris, on Flugel Horn, and Point of Ayr, on Principle Cornet, Keith took the position of Musical Director at Rhyl Silver Band who were then in section four. A similar pattern emerged, winning the Area Championship three times, qualifying for the National Finals three times and various successes in North Wales Contests. Keith recently conducted LLanrug for a short time taking them to the National Finals.

Keith has been a peripatetic brass teacher in Conwy County for twenty-three years and has successfully conducted both Junior and Senior County Orchestras for that period. He has been involved with Four Counties as Brass Tutor and has on two occasions been invited to conduct the ensemble. Keith has also twice adjudicated the North Wales Solo competition. He has an impressive string of former students and graduates who are/have played for top bands in the Country such as Faireys, Fodens, Black Dyke, Leyland and Grimethorpe as well as several ex-students currently serving in the Armed Forced Bands.

Keith is very much looking forward to conducting The Royal Buckley Town Band and will work hard carrying on the good work of Brett Baker.
